experiment 871

Brookhaven National Laboratory experiment 871 made the first observation of the decay of the long-lived neutral kaon to an electron-positron pair, KL0 --> e+e-, by far the smallest non-zero branching fraction yet observed in particle physics. At 8.7 x 10-12, it betters the previous record by two orders of magnitude. Phys. Rev. Lett. 81 (1998) 4309-4312, hep-ex/9810007.
